Swami Sivananda also known as the Sivananda Saraswati was a great Hindu spiritual soul who had devoted his life to the spirituality and also was a proponent of yogas and vedas.

Swami Sivananda was born on 8 september 1887 in the Kuppuswami in the pattamadai,Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.His father name was Mr. PS Vengu Iyer and his mother Ms.Paravati ammal was a very religious woman.

Swami Sivananda died on 14th July 1963 when he was 75 years old in the sivanandanagar Rishikesh.
Earlier life of Swami Sivananda
At the time of British empire he studied medicine and was a graduate He had worked as a physician for several years in British malaya.After given his service to 10 years he took up the monasticism and came back to india in 1923 for his spiritual quest.He loves living in Rishikesh.
He was the founder of the Divine life society and founded the same in 1936.He had written around 200 books on yoga, Vedanta and variety of subjects. The Divine life society would be having its headquarters in sivanandnagar which is approximately 3 kilometres from the Rishikesh on the banks of the ganga river.From here he has spread the divinity of yoga and Vedanta to the whole world.
After forming the DLS he travelled to the all parts of India and met all the spiritual teachers and given his lectures to them.He also travelled to south specially to Rameswaram and conducted many types of bhajan and Sankirtan for the peoples. He also Visited to sri Aurobindo ashram and met Maharishi Suddhananda Bharti and gave him the title of maharishi. He also visited to Hindu pilgrims like kedarnath,Badrinath and kailash mansarover.
